Dervin`s art work has always been self reflective and originates from a very personal place. With the passage of time the work has morphed from something purely autobiographical to something that, while still introspective, is more considered. A growing sense of misgiving is the most prevalent issue in Dervin`s work and stems from issues of physical and emotional vulnerability. The imagery used can make for uncomfortable viewing but the work also has a playful, satirical side. Dervin has an abiding interest in medical and story book illustration and a keen interest in photography. These idioms act as a reference point and pillar upon which the work develops. Her love for the photographic image seeps into various different media. The form of the work can vary from intricately sewn textile pieces to more spontaneous, expressively rendered mono prints and paintings. She continually explores various processes and this has become a vital element in her creative journey. The message she conveys remains cohesive and clear and is honest in both concept and application.
